Hailing from Detroit, MI., Walter Howard, better known by his stage moniker “Hazmat,” is first and foremost not a DJ. He is a composer, producer, and artist. To see Hazmat Live is to be transported to another musical dimension, as is evident by his first ep ‘Whispers From the Nebula.’ Hazmat Live blends house and techno beats with a funky Detroit vibe and elements of soulful talkbox. Every beat of the music is composed live, giving audiences a rare experience to witness the development of the tracks along with Hazmat’s talkboxing. His “electric improv” approach allows him to reinvent himself during each live performance, which brings along with it a new perspective of how we use sound and rhythm to convey this thing we call music.
Hazmat’s unique approach and raw talent have been garnering him critical acclaim from the Detroit and international techno communities. In addition, Hazmat’s talkboxing abilities have already become a YouTube sensation, earning more than 810,000 views along with positive reviews from fans all over the world.
This led to talkbox features with UK artist the Brookes Brothers on their hit “Loveline.” After performing on Soul Clap’s song and music video “Synthesizer Girlfriend” in 2017. Hazmat Live performed with them at Movement Electronic Music Festival that same year after playing his own solo set.
