Malibu, California’s KIVA (real name Kudisan Kai) has been a go-to background session, touring, and film score session singer as Kudisan Kai for many of music elite for well over 25 years, this impresses career was recently detailed in the Archway Publishing book, Memoirs of a Back-Up Diva. Whether it was on tours, albums, and film scores for nearly two-decades with Elton John, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Anita Baker, Jeffrey Osbourne, Sting, and Beck to her 2018 appearance on The Voice, 2020 appearance on The Academy Awards backing both Cynthia Errivo and Chrissy Metz, to performing on iconic TV programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, and VH-1 Honors (3 times), Kai still finds time to host her weekly podcast entitled, Backstories On Kai-Fi, and her online vocal music forum entitled Vocal Music Evolution.
And that barely scratches the surface of who Kai has worked alongside over the years. In 2019, Kai was urged to come front and center where, under the new name KIVA, began being featured on various dance and rock hits, most recently on late 2019 early 2020 TRAIG dance hit “Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That.” Her new release “Step Into The Light” co-written with producer, Headrocka is her second of four upcoming House collaborations for the duo.
Birmingham, England’s Headrocka (real name Jeff McDonald) has been making since his high school days forming a band with his brothers and sisters to gig around town performing new and classic reggae tracks. As they went through various line-up changes, the band, now called LIAZ, was signed to Kool Kat Records. As part of the early House movement, they released “House Sensation,” produced by the legendary Kevin Saunderson.
This was followed by “Affection,” a cover of the Lisa Stansfield classic, which actually featured Lisa on guest & backing vocals and was signed to Virgin 10 Records. The band appeared on “The Hit Man and Her” TV show to promote this track, but eventually broke up.
Jeff continued alone, adding production skills to his songwriting and musical repertoire, collaborating with a variety of vocalists and musicians throughout his career to creating a catalog of soulful music released on various independent labels under both the names Headrocka and Todd Breed. While primarily focusing on studio production for various bands over the past 15 years, Jeff’s latest 2019-2020 collaborations with Dj Darren Deluca have placed him firmly back in the house music arena with their remix of Bliss Bliss’ “No Apology” recently reaching #15 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Charts.
