JJ Draper Embraces His Love of Indie Rock & Lets Loose on New Single 'Part of a Piece of Thi

"Beautiful" - Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1

"Beautiful arrangement that accentuates that depth of emotion and the fragility of life which again demonstrates why his tenderness and artistry is often compared to the likes of Sufjan Stevens." - Folk Radio

"The multi-instrumentalist has already established himself as a calm and assured talent. With a voice full of a sorrow and a heart for songwriting..."In Visions" is a swirling haze of intelligent synth work and yearning vocals that sounds almost orchestrated rather than assembled" - The Line of Best Fit

"Channelling electronic producers from James Blake to SOHN, ‘Zero-Sum’ largely fits into the same box, but comes with a much warmer texture, feeling as akin to homely folk as it does icy electronica" - DIY Magazine

Following the success of his 'Theft And The Flight' EP released earlier this year, JJ Draper is back with another new single, the electrifying 'Part Of A Piece Of This'. Making a name for himself as an indie folk artist often compared to the likes of Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens, the new single see's JJ leaning on his love of Indie Rock, bringing a fresh energy and drive to his sound whilst still retaining the emotional complexity of his other work.

Speaking on the new single JJ Said:

"I have played this track live for nearly 3 years. Always a firm favourite with audiences, I often joke that it proves to my band that I am in fact a “Rockstar” and not a mopey alternative artist. No one is convinced. It is, though, a song that sticks out for its defiant and heavy dynamic.

I felt I had to put it on record as it was such an important song for me in moving on from a period of frustration and confusion. After years of what I felt was chronic mismanagement, the song is a scalding reproach of, well, everything around me and myself. The title refers to my wish to elude expectation, to contradict myself and make music I want to make in the moment."

Working with producer Ed Tullett (Novo Amor, Hailaker), garnering praise from the likes of Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, DIY and The Line Of Best Fit as well as supporting Rhye at London’s KOKO, JJ has built a considerable fan base with over a million plays on Spotify alone. With a bunch of new material on the horizon following this year's already busy release schedule, JJ has a busy few months upcoming!
