Singer-songwriter Paul Tully is releasing an ode to anxiety, a condition affecting millions of people but which still largely remains misunderstood. Though touching upon something which has affected him, he hopes the song will give confidence to others dealing with the anxiety to know they are not alone and to reach out for help, whilst keeping the song resolutely upbeat and positive. Hailing from Strabane in Co. Tyrone and currently residing in Dublin City, his musical prowess has been well celebrated in his hometown for many years and is one of Irish music’s best kept secrets. He has played extensively around Ireland supporting the likes of Paddy Casey and Paul Brady along the way but Anxiety shows Paul’s unique talent for songwriting and as a performer who communicates directly with audiences.
“I’m hoping the song could bring a sense of comfort to those suffering from anxiety and let them know they aren’t alone. When I wrote the song in June of this year, we were in the middle of lockdown and there was a real uncertainty regarding our health and well-being of not only ourselves but those closest to us. On top of that we have ever-increasing living costs, the never-ending Brexit and a complete lack of job security -people really are at their wits end. The song basically describes my experience with anxiety and I hope it can help anyone listening and know that they aren’t alone”.
2013 saw the release of his debut EP "Lyric for the Lost", which still remains a firm favourite on Irish radio.
The success of the debut EP saw Paul performing alongside Foy Vance, Cara Dillon and Grammy Award-winning Jim Lauderdale as part of the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival and perform in Nashville at the famous Bluebird Café. Combining honesty, integrity and an incredibly important personal message, Anxiety is nevertheless a guitar-driven earworm which touches upon classic songwriters from the worlds of pop, folk and Americana.
