Ajay Mathur Releases "Anytime At All" (Aftermath of Silence) – The Moment of Clarity

November 2021 [Stans, Switzerland], Ajay Mathur releases his powerful new two-version single "Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)"in a contemporary urban remix and an intimate acoustic version. The song, from his upcoming album, follows Ajay’s successful debut single “I Need You Now” released in August 2021.

Sometimes it takes decades and a moment of clarity for a song to mature. This is definitely the case with “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)”. Written shortly after John Lennon’s senseless murder and dedicated to the iconic musician, the song came out of the emotional trauma Ajay and many other lovers of Lennon’s music experienced. Even though it wasn’t the first time Ajay had been exposed to death - having lost both his parents when he was a toddler - the sheer insanity of this vicious act of violence was stifling. “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)”, written from the perspective of somebody who was close by when Lennon was shot, came out like a gasp for breath, swift and soothing. Fast forward to April 2020. The world is in the vicious grip of a pandemic. Shutdowns, cancellations, isolation, inertia follows.

Ajay retreats to his home studio, binge-listening to his favourite records, among them The Beatles and John Lennon. He picks up his guitar and starts singing “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)”. That was his moment of clarity. He finally found the emotional strength and the right musical voice for the song. Ajay resumed work on his upcoming album, recorded and finished all the album tracks, including both versions of any time At All.

"People exit our lives for many different reasons – end of a relationship, geographic separation, death by illness, carelessness or maliciousness of others – and we are forced to face the void. Recognizing that they are never really gone is where we can begin to find peace and comfort. “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” describes that moment of clarity, that the people who have touched you deeply are always going to be there with you. All you’ve gotta do is call." - Ajay Mathur

“Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” needed to exude the clarity, peace and comfort that Ajay felt when he revisited the song in April 2020. So, he got in touch with his musician friend and pianist Michael Dolmetsch, who Ajay always admired but had never had the chance to work with. Michael understood instantly what Ajay intended to express and recorded the beautiful, vibrant grand piano track. To enhance the mystique and fluidity of the song, Ajay’s friend Steve Birrer added the pedal steel track. After recording his powerful vocal track, the song was ready for mixing by Grammy Award Winning engineer Austin Asvanonda (War on Drugs, Rolling Stones). Ajay went on to work with the award-winning British producer/remixer Philip Larsen, who has successfully worked, among others, with Soft Cell, OMD, Human League, Kim Wilde, The B-52's, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Moby and Britney Spears. Philip cooked up an uplifting contemporary urban version of the song, which is part of the single release. Just as John Lennon was taken from us in the midst of his life, Ajay chose the timing of the release, between Lennon's birthday on October 9 and the anniversary of his death on December 8.

October 15th, 2021 (Los Angeles, CA) – “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” wins The Akademia Music Award for Best Pop Rock song.
